Dragon Ball Z: Return of the Super Saiyan is the sequel to the 2009 role-playing game, Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans. Starting where the first game left off, it continues from the start of the Namek Saga, and goes through the Garlic Jr., Androids, and Cell Sagas. Perfect Cell is the final boss of the game.
Return of the Super Saiyan is a turn based role-playing game, with the same battle system (which has rage gauges), and also has AP, like the first game does. Getting hit or hitting your opponents, causes your rage gauge to fill up a little, and you can use AP (points you get from battle) to level up attacks in the skills menu. You can also use this to level up your attack skills and defense. A new feature of the game is Super Saiyan (which only Goku, Vegeta, Future Trunks, and Gohan have for this game). When your Rage Gauge has filled completely up, you can use the Ultimate Skill of going Super Saiyan, like Kaio Ken in the first game. Except, its different, when you go Super Saiyan, it is not temporary. Turning Super Saiyan does use ki points every turn, and you can stay Super Saiyan for the rest of the battle if you keep restoring ki points when they decrease every turn. If your ki points fall under 500, you will revert back to base form. Full Power Super Saiyan, which only Goku and Gohan use in the game, is not temporary and does not take up ki points every turn. It is not an Ultimate Skill, so your rage gauge doesn't need to fill up completely to use it. Additionally, Full Power Super Saiyan is stronger than the original Super Saiyan. Super Saiyan 2 is only used by Gohan, and is an Ultimate Skill that you can only use if you go Full Power Super Saiyan first. Gohan achieves this in a cutscene after beating a Cell Jr.
In Return of the Super Saiyan, you also have a world map like you do in Attack of the Saiyans, and you can explore, visit places, and buy items, equipment, and capsules. Like Attack of the Saiyans, it has random encounters, as you walk around.
Krillin, Gohan, Goku, Piccolo, Dende, Nail, Vegeta, Mr. Popo (only playable when Bulma and him go to Yunzabit Heights to go into the Nameless Namek's ship), Future Trunks, Tien (only playable during Future Trunks battle with Frieza and the battle against the Cell Jr's) ,and Yamcha (only playable in Future Trunks arc and when up against Cell Jr's) are playable.
